The Salvation Army Enlists Crossroads for Kid’s Learning Series
Crossroads: Impacting Future Generations for Christ
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO – August 24, 2010. Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. (CCCI) and Crossroads Television System (CTS) are ready, willing, and qualified to serve The Salvation Army as preferred producers of a brand new, state of the art, interactive and media-driven children’s curriculum entitled “Ready To Serve.” The Salvation Army in Canada entered into an agreement earlier this summer with Crossroads and are pleased to announce this partnership today.
“We look forward to working with Crossroads on this significant project,” says Captain Mark Hall, Territorial Youth Secretary for Canada and Bermuda. “We believe it’s important to be creatively connected to today’s children’s culture in order to engage and empower kids to live godly lives. Crossroads will help us do that.”
The Ready To Serve curriculum is the first media-based curriculum for kids produced exclusively for The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army has engaged Crossroads and its own team of educators to create a modern adventure-style, faith-based curriculum for kids age 7-10 years. The resource will be available for use in churches across North America in September 2011, and will feature weekly in-class lessons as well as a daily at-home, web-based resource for young families.
“Engaging kids at all stages of their faith with large and small group activities, in a safe and trusted teacher-friendly format, using original video segments, exciting music and culturally relevant Bible lessons is the best way to interact with our young people in these times,” says Bruce Stacey, Chief Content Officer at CTS and liaison to The Salvation Army development team. “It is also important to The Salvation Army and to Crossroads that we encourage kids to continue what they learn on Sundays with at-home follow-up.”
The Salvation Army is developing a dedicated website that will include a safe on-line gaming world, music videos, Army Trivia, and other activities to reinforce the faith and values lessons learned in class each week. Together these components will help children grow in their faith and hopefully model their values to others.

As the only Canadian Television interview on this visit north, Connie Smith who hosts Always Good News (AGN) will be tracking Palin’s meteoric rise from small town Alaska hockey Mom, to international celebrity, and most recently the darling of the Tea Party Movement that has shaken the U.S political system with it’s strong opposition to growing government and higher taxation.
“The interview was great”, says Ms. Smith, “It was one of only two granted by Governor Palin. The other was a print news outlet. I caught up with her on camera after she spoke to a crowd of 900 people at Carmen’s Banquet Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, recently where she was instrumental in raising $50,000 for The Charity of Hope for needy children.” Connie Smith has been one of the most recognizable and engaging personalities on the air in Southern Ontario for more than 30 years. Since September 2009, Ms. Smith has been the Producer and host of Always Good News seen daily on CTS.
Sarah Palin is the author of the New York Times best seller, “Going Rogue: An American Life”, a TV commentator and host of an upcoming multi-part reality style series on her home state of Alaska. As a wife, mother of five and grandmother, she has a unique, grass roots approach to issues that resonate with conservative individuals but is considered controversial by many media outlets.
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO - March 17, 2010. Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. (CCCI) and Crossroads Television System Inc. (CTS TV) have each announced a comprehensive reorganization to position their resources behind a combined new vision. The vision is supported by three measurable objectives: to expand faith and values content; increase viewership; and extend care to their audiences while inspiring acts of service.
The reorganization has created six content categories each led by an experienced Executive Producer. They include News and Current Affairs; Opinion and Talk Shows; Youth and Young Adults; Children; Family Entertainment and Specials; and 100 Huntley Street, the flagship daily program that will remain in a category of its own. The functional departments will be structured to support increased content creation with optimized resource usage.
A single executive leadership team includes, Chief Executive Officer, Don Simmonds; Chief Operating Officer Byron Winsor, a 15-year leader at Crossroads who also carries the role of Shared Operations Officer; Ron Mainse as Spiritual Director with the added responsibility of Executive Producerof 100 Huntley Street; Bruce Stacey, in the position of Chief Content Officer (recognized for creating award winning family and children’s productions including “God Rocks!”) with additional roles as Executive Producerfor both the Children’s and Family Entertainment categories; Chief Financial Officer Matt Hillier, CA who served CTS in this role for the last 11 years; and veteran Gary Gerard who carries the responsibility of Chief Development Officer, overseeing all types of revenue and sales in both organizations.
Don Simmonds, recently appointed as Chief Executive Officer for Crossroads and CTS explains the new vision, “we will provide a relevant message of faith and values for Canadians of all ages, along their whole faith journey, using new digital media platforms in addition to TV, thereby extending our reach on a global basis.” Simmonds continues, “this broadened vision for our programming matrix includes interactive engagement with our audiences. Their needs and the way media will be digested in the future will drive our delivery of the unchanging message of God’s love.”

CALGARY, AB – CTS (Crossroads Television System) Cable 51, is set to launch a different type of public affairs program – New West Weekly – 10:00 am and 8:00 pm, Saturday January 24th, hosted by Calgary personality Natalie Faith.
In the fast-paced first program, viewers will see Mayor Dave Bronconnier from a decidedly different point of view, and listen to children describe what God looks like. Hint: they have better answers than most adults.
“I have worked in the Calgary community for 5 years, and am delighted to bring this new type of show to the airwaves,” said Faith, known to Calgarians previously as a morning drive host on radio station Shine FM.
“With this program, we want to reflect the as-yet untold stories of the lives of unsung community heroes and organizations making a difference right here.”
New West Weekly will include segments on public affairs, culture, sports and the activities of local charities, inspiring individuals and communities of worship.
“We’ve listened closely to the community and it is telling us that it wants programming that entertains, uplifts and celebrates the selfless good deeds of everyday people,” said Executive Director of CTS Alberta, Richard M. Landau. “This new program reflects that desire.”
CTS is dedicated to bringing wholesome programming to the Calgary community, and has a number of new series and programs in development.
The local channel and its sister station in Edmonton have been on the air since October 2007. CTS also has broadcast operations in Ontario, which began in 1998 and grew out of the 100 Huntley Street broadcast ministry.
New West Weekly will premiere on Saturday January 24th and air every Saturday at 8:00pm on channel 32, cable 51. A complete schedule can be found at www.ctstv.com.

Crossroads Television System (CTS) is celebrating a milestone this fall; an entire decade of broadcasting messages of hope and family-friendly programs over the airwaves.
“Turn on your TV any day, and you’ll see stories of violence, political and economic uncertainty, and turmoil,” said CTS Programming Manager, Rob Sheppard. “CTS rises above all of that to provide something refreshingly different and ‘watchable’ for the entire family.”
CTS founder David Mainse launched the station in Burlington, Ontario just over 10 years ago, on September 30th 1998. However, this amazing story began 20 years prior when Mainse was hosting and developing “100 Huntley Street” in Toronto. As CTS’ flagship show, it is one of the longest-running programs in Canadian television (46 years), rivaled only by the CFL and Hockey Night in Canada.
“CTS’ programming provides an option for families wanting to watch TV together – regardless of religion,” said CTS Executive Director, Richard Landau. CTS’ primetime schedule includes entertainment shows such as “Family Ties”, “Full House” and “Happy Days”. CTS is also known for its faith-based and original shows such as the always interesting, always controversial, “Michael Coren Show”.
As these and other shows helped CTS become part of communities across Ontario (and in other provinces via satellite stations), the decision was made to “Go West”; in October of 2008, CTS expanded to Alberta, launching new stations in Calgary and Edmonton.
“To be able to share such positive programming to such a mass amount of people across our country for a decade has been a life-changing experience for me,” said CTS producer, Mindy Tweedle. “It’s nice to work for a company that has integrity; I’m happy to be able to be part of creating this new horizon for the station. CTS truly is Television You Can Believe In.”
Crossroads Television System (CTS) is set to launch a 'new look' on Thanksgiving Monday (October 13, 2008), just one week after the station celebrates its tenth year on the air in Ontario, and its first in Alberta.
"We're bringing forth a new identity for CTS in this anniversary year," said CTS Creative Director, Chris Somerville. "We hope that families across Canada will continue to welcome us into their living rooms, feeling a new sense of belonging to the CTS community."
Founded and based just outside of Toronto in Burlington, CTS also has transmitters in London and Ottawa, and two recently launched stations in Calgary and Edmonton. "Currently, our website and our stations reflect a separation between Ontario and Alberta, using different coloured logos to differentiate them," said Somerville. "We plan to bring all of our stations together by creating one national identity, while maintaining a local feel in each region. Gone is the fractured structure of our stations; October 13th will bring one colour, one network - one CTS."
CTS may be getting a facelift, but it will still offer a variety of wholesome programming fit for the entire family. "While we do provide multi-faith and 'balanced' programming, CTS is widely known for its positive Christian messages," said CTS Programming Manager, Rob Sheppard. "We continually strive to live up to our slogan; that CTS is: Television You Can Believe In."
Loyal and new viewers alike are encouraged to tune into CTS on October 13th to see the station's 'new look' for themselves.
